One of MLB’s brightest young stars on the mound has gone from ballyhooed status to being on the trade block for a second straight season, as veteran RHP Jack Flaherty appears set to leave the Motor City after half a season with the Detroit Tigers.
Flaherty was dealt at the deadline last year as well, going from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Baltimore Orioles, where he struggled mightily down the stretch, going 1-6 with a 6.75 ERA and an ERA+ of 61 in nine starts with the AL East club.
This year, Flaherty has righted those wrongs, with a 7-5 record and a 142 ERA+ in 106.2 innings pitched, though Detroit’s still mired in fourth place in their division at 52-55, likely forcing the club to deal their veteran righty as their playoff chances fade across Michigan sports betting.
Flaherty has outperformed expectations during his one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. However, the Tigers are expected to trade him to another team ahead of the deadline. At BetMichigan.com, we developed odds to see where Flaherty will end up for the remainder of the season.

Given Flaherty’s rebound season in Detroit and the dire need for pitching across the Majors, it seems likely that a slew of contenders will be ready to make a deal with Tigers GM Jeff Greenberg in the coming days.
That’s why we see the Tigers’ division rivals, the Cleveland Guardians, as our No. 1 contender for Flaherty’s services, as the AL Central squad looks to expand their lead over the Minnesota Twins in the four-team pod.
The Guardians come in at +300 to take the top spot in the Flaherty sweepstakes, beating out the team that the 28-year-old finished last year with, as the Orioles are listed at +350, ahead of the franchise that drafted the veteran.
The Cardinals are listed at +550 to reunite with Flaherty at the deadline, while the Brewers are the other club that has solid odds of swinging a trade for the righty, at +1220, while the odds of him staying in Detroit after July 30 sit at +1750.
One way or another, it looks like the Flaherty experiment will end by the time the deadline comes and goes on July 30, as the right-handed pitcher’s success in Detroit has been too successful for Tigers’ front office members to sit still in the coming days.
