Detroit Lions Super Bowl 59 Outlook & Predictions

Following a 20-13 win over the Cardinals in Week 3, the Lions Super Bowl odds haven't moved much since the preseason.

It seems oddsmakers want to see this team play like the best in the NFL before making any sharp movements. While Kansas City and Buffalo have dominated, the Lions haven't won a game convincingly the way they did a season ago.

It's worth noting that, despite two losses in three weeks, San Francisco – the team that ended Detroit's playoff run last year – still holds the second-shortest odds to win SB LIX. That tells you Vegas is banking on Christian McCaffrey & Deebo Samuel's return from injuries reviving the team.

Before Dan Campbell's squad worries about the Super Bowl, they need to worry about the NFC North – arguably the most difficult division in the NFL this season. Minnesota, the division's biggest preseason longshot, is one of only two undefeated teams in the conference, and Green Bay is 2-1 despite an injury to its starting quarterback.

So far, Detroit is more than looking the part on defense – their biggest weakness last season. Most importantly, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is the best defensive player in the league so far, totaling more sacks (6.5) than 11 NFL teams through three games.

The offense, on the other hand, is off to a slow start. Not in yards or production – they outgained Tampa by 247 yards in Week 2 – but red zone scoring and a lack of consistency from quarterback Jared Goff.

For now, it looks like nothing more than early-season mishaps that will be solved. Keep an eye on Goff, though. If he has any regression, it could seriously impede the Lions odds to win the Super Bowl.

Lions Super Bowl Odds vs. NFC North

Despite not having the best record in the division, the Lions have the best odds to win the NFC North entering Week 4. You can see a divisional odds comparison in the widget below. πŸ‘‡

{"future_market":{"competitors":[]}}

Despite a convincing divisional crown last season, the Lions have a slim lead in the odds over the rival Packers and shockingly undefeated Vikings.

Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson celebrates as team inches closer to Super Bowl

Schedule & Betting Lines for Each Game

Most Important Players

Despite many believing Dan Campbell earned AP Coach of the Year honors, Kevin Stefanski (Browns) beat him out for the award. With high expectations and it being more of an underdog award, Campbell is eighth in the odds for 2024 COY at +1500 in 2024. Still, M.C.D.C. (Motor City Dan Campbell) is one of the many faces of the franchises and arguably the most impactful individual in the franchise's miraculous turnaround.

Offense

Meanwhile, franchise quarterback Jared Goff is playing the best football of his career and is hoping for an extension to his contract because of it. The California native has +4000 odds to win the NFL MVP Award. After signing a monstrous extension this offseason, All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is tied with his teammate, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, to win Offensive Player of the Year at +2500 odds. Meanwhile, tight end Sam LaPorta had four more touchdowns than any other tight end in the league last year. Backed by the league's deepest offensive line, led by Penei Sewell, this might be the most complete offense in the NFL.

Defense

Defensively, hometown kid Aidan Hutchinson is settled into superstar status, leading the league in quarterback hits while finishing second in hurries and pressures generated. Hutch got some help this offseason, as the team added star veteran defensive tackle D.J. Reader to team up with Alim McNeill in the interior. While the team's secondary struggled all season, Detroit addressed it in a big way this offseason, adding former Tampa Bay cornerback Carlton Davis III via trade, and former Oakland cornerback Amik Robertson via free agency.

General manager Brad Holmes wasn't done there, though, adding two potential future All-Pro corners in Terrion Arnold (Alabama) and Ennis Rakestraw, Jr. (Missouri) with his first two picks in the draft. And despite losing Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles in free agency, the Lions return their trio of starting safeties: Ifeatu Melifonwu, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph.
