Michigan Wolverines Chances To Win vs Minnesota Golden Gophers

Michigan and Minnesota have played each other amongst the most any team in the FBS with 105 games between the two rivals, with Michigan dominating the series over the past century. The Wolverines will enter the game with a new head coach, new quarterback, but a similar stout defense. Meanwhile, Minnesota will head to Ann Arbor with a few significant position improvements under head coach PJ Fleck.

Michigan will be the favorite in this game, but as history has told us, don't simply count out the Golden Gophers.

How The Michigan Wolverines Win vs Minnesota Golden Gophers

Michigan is the more talented of the two on paper. As defending national champions, Michigan comes to the game with a trove of talent (despite a new head coach and a few key departures to the NFL) that should be able to out-muscle and outlast the Golden Gophers.

📈 Strengths: Toughness on the line of scrimmage

📉 Weaknesses: Still early in the season with a new coaching staff and key contributors, which could still be working out kinks.

How The Minnesota Golden Gophers Win vs Michigan Wolverines

Over the eight years that head coach PJ Fleck has led the Golden Gophers, you can see the makings of a team that is continuously trying to get better. They will be well-coached and will have a solid rushing attack. They are going to be starting a new quarterback in Max Brosmer, who transferred from New Hampshire, which could mean some growing pains for the Golden Gophers. They are not going to be expected to win, but they are not a team to be slept on.

📈 Strengths: Their rushing attack should be among the better teams in the Big Ten.

📉 Weaknesses: They just don't have as much talent as Michigan, especially at the line of scrimmage.
