It appears that the Great Lakes State is not in the majority when it comes to national trends regarding the most popular birth months in America over the last 15 years.
BetMichigan.com took a break from Michigan sports betting to check on which months each state produced the most childbirths.
Overall, the state had 161,466 births between 2007 and 2022 in July, which beat out August (160,860) and May (155,517) as the most popular month to have a baby in recent Michigan history.
To get our data, BetMichigan.com – your source for online Michigan casinos - used the CDC’s Natality Information from 2007 to 2022 to find the most popular birth months of each state over that period.
Here are the results:
Over the 15-year period surveyed for this story, Michigan was one of 12 states that had July as its top birth month.
That trend flew in the face of the national numbers, which showed 36 states have August as their No. 1 birth month, including most of the states that border Michigan.
Of the 50 states in the U.S., the No. 1 month in Hawaii was September and it was May in Wyoming (May). Joining Michigan as July atop the list are Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
Nationally, it seems like the best time of year to have a kid is the final full month of summer, as August is the standard-bearer for the most births overall, despite Michigan having July as their top birth month during that time span.
