Life in Plastic: States Least Obsessed with Plastic Surgery

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

National Botox Day is Nov. 15, marking a day anticipated by cosmetic enhancement enthusiasts, especially Hollywood celebrities. California and Florida are often recognized as the epicenter for renowned plastic surgery clinics, but we wanted to explore which other states have residents curious about such cosmetic procedures.

And where does Michigan rank? Is The Great Lakes State the home of not only Michigan online casinos but also great interest in a nip here and a tuck there?

BetMichigan.com used Google Trends to find each state’s relative search volume (or RSV) for various terms related to plastic surgery. Those key terms include: rhinoplasty, liposuction, botox, lip fillers and breast augmentation and abdominoplasty. We measured interest in those phrases or words during a one-year span, from Nov. 8, 2022 to Nov. 8, 2023. We then ranked the states according to how much the folks there searched for these terms.

States Searching Plastic Surgery Most & Least

Based on the results, it seems Michigan residents are generally less inclined toward plastic surgery, especially when compared to California and Florida.

It seems natural that Florida and California are first and second on this list with an average search volume of 86.3% and 81.7%, respectively. This explains the success and fortune of Dr. Miami, a world-renowned plastic surgeon who has consulted countless A-list celebrities and has grown a massive social following. Dr. Miami (real name Michael Salzhauer) runs one of the most successful American plastic surgery practices in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida.

Another preferred destination for those considering plastic surgery is Beverly Hills, California, home to many acclaimed practices that will certainly cost you a hefty price. But many are willing to pay to be part of the Hollywood glamor that many celebrities chase.

As for the home of Michigan sports betting promos, this state can be found in the lower half of this list, ranking No. 37 with an average search volume of 55.5%. The general consensus would not consider visiting the beautiful Great Lake State for such dangerous procedures, specifically for cosmetic purposes.

For individuals in the state with heavy interest in plastic surgery, we researched which specific procedures are favored by folks seeking plastic surgery — whether they are motivated by cosmetic enhancements or reconstructive purposes. Here are the results.
