The 2-mile, D-shaped oval at Michigan International Speedway is known for high speeds and close racing. For the past few years, Michigan sports betting on NASCAR races – at this track and around the nation – has been an appealing option.

This year will be no different, as the NASCAR Cup Series rolls into MIS on Aug. 18 for the FireKeepers Casino 400. This will be 24th of 26 races on the regular-season schedule for the top stock car series, with many drivers desperate to earn a victory that will get them into the 16-car field for the NASCAR playoffs.

DraftKings Michigan Sportsbook odds for 2024 FireKeepers Casino 400 updated on Aug. 13

Kyle Larson goes into the weekend as a slight favorite, with +550 odds, followed by Denny Hamlin at +600. Chris Buescher won last year’s lone Michigan race and enters with +1800 odds to win this time around. Larson is the only four-time winner in the series in 2024; Hamlin, Christopher Bell (+900) and William Byron (+1200) have won three times each.

Tyler Reddick (+850) leads the series this year in top-five and top-10 finishes, with 10 and 16, respectively. But his form at Michigan has never been good; his best finish there was 18th in 2020.

Last weekend at Richmond, Austin Dillon upended a few wagers for people using the best Michigan sportsbook promos, not to mention upsetting a few rivals.

Dillon hadn’t won a Cup Series race since 2022 and only had two top-10 runs all season going into the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway. But he took the lead late, then caused a ton of controversy on a restart – on the final lap, Dillon wrecked leader Joey Logano, straightened out his own car, wrecked Denny Hamlin as Hamlin passed him on the inside, and took the checkered flag.

Will there be similar fireworks at Michigan this weekend?

Hamlin has had the best average finish at Michigan over the past three years, at 3.7, but he has not won on the 2-mile oval in that span. His most recent Cup series victory in Brooklyn was in 2011.

Kevin Harvick was the recent Michigan master, with five victories in the past eight races there. But he has retired and now works for Fox as a commentator. Reigning series champion Ryan Blaney has an average finish of 5.0 in the past three Michigan races, including a win in 2021. Kyle Larson, a three-time Cup winner at MIS, also has an average finish of 5.0 since 2021.

NASCAR has been coming to MIS since 1969 and ran two races there annually until 2021. This is the fourth consecutive season that NASCAR will run at Michigan only once. David Pearson is the all-time track leader with nine career victories. Larson and Joey Logano are the active leaders there with three victories apiece.

There will be plenty of prop bets available at Michigan sports betting apps for anyone who likes wagers other than odds to win.
