Sixth-year RB David Montgomery and his colleague in the Lions’ backfield, Jahmyr Gibbs, are a two-headed combo. Montgomery, who has amassed an approximate value of 39 in 80 NFL games, ranks in a tie with Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers for fourth leaguewide, with a search interest score of nine.
Gibbs, on the other hand, has turned his Pro Bowl campaign in 2023-24 into a search interest score of seven. That is tied with James Cook of the Buffalo Bills and Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons for sixth among NFL running backs.
The Lions are favored to win the division for the second straight year, with Caesars Michigan Sportsbook putting -105 odds on it. The Minnesota Vikings are at +270 odds, followed by the Green Bay Packers (+350) and the Chicago Bears (+1200).
Across the NFL, only Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles (18 search interest level), Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens (15) and Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints (11) finished with higher totals than Montgomery.
Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts finished between Gibbs and Smith for search interest level, with the veteran running back out of the Hoosier State notching a search interest level of nine.
Between the two Lions running backs, Montgomery has more rushing touchdowns this season (6 to 5) but Gibbs has more rushing yards this season (464) than the veteran out of Iowa State (382).
The two-headed backfield attack is one of the main reasons why Detroit has the third best Super Bowl odds at BetRivers Michigan Sportsbook, at +750, ranking behind the Kansas City Chiefs (+400) and Baltimore Ravens (+600) as of Oct. 25.
