How to Play Club Keno
The first thing you will need to do when you want to play a Club Keno game is to find a retailer near you. Club Keno is available only to in-person players – you can’t buy a Club Keno ticket online. There are more than 10,000 outlets in Michigan that are licensed to sell tickets, and you can find your closest retailer by visiting the Michigan Lottery website.
Once you are at a participating retailer and have a Club Keno playslip, here’s what you do:
1️⃣ Select how many numbers – also known as “spots” – you want to choose. You can pick between one and 10 spots.
2️⃣ Your prize is determined by how many spots you pick. Check the prize table for precise details.
3️⃣ Decide how much you want to wager on each draw. You can stake as little as $1 and as much as $20.
4️⃣ Choose how many draws you want to be entered in; the maximum is 60.
5️⃣ Select your spots on the grid that shows all numbers between one and 80.
6️⃣ You may want to use one of the optional Club Keno add-ons that give you more chances to win and increase your prize (see below).
7️⃣ Now take your playslip to the retailer, who will print out your draw ticket. This will display all the choices you have made.
8️⃣ In each draw, 20 out of the 80 numbers are chosen at random. Another 10 numbers are drawn for the Extra draw prize.
9️⃣ The more numbers that match your spots, the more you win.
You’re ready to watch the first of your draws take place – and you should not have long to wait. Draws take place every few minutes between 6 am and 2 am, seven days a week.
Club Keno Tickets
Although each Club Keno drawing looks simple, there are a host of variations that you can apply when you buy a Club Keno ticket.
- Your stake: You can wager just $1 per draw to play, but you can also stake $2, $3, $4, $5, $10 or $20 per draw.
- Number of draws: It’s possible to play on just a single drawing – but you can enter as many as 60 draws at one time.
- The Jack: If you play The Jack, you earn the chance to win a progressive jackpot, among other prizes. You have to pay an extra $1 to be included in this.
- The Kicker: This is a multiplier that is selected before each Club Keno drawing. All winnings from that drawing are multiplied by the number shown (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10). To play The Kicker, you have to double the stake on your ticket.
- The Extra: After every Club Keno drawing, an extra 10 numbers are drawn, with their own prize table. To play The Extra, you pay $1 more for every $1 wagered
How to Check Your Numbers When Playing Club Keno
There are two ways to check the Club Keno numbers drawn in any game. The first is to watch the drawing at the retailer where you bought your ticket. The second is to go online, to the Michigan Lottery’s website, or its mobile app, where you will need to follow these steps:
- Scroll down to find the Club Keno section.
- You can watch the current Club Keno drawing that is taking place.
- Alternatively, you can watch previous drawings for which you held a ticket by going to the Watch My Drawings section.
- Once you get there, use the grid to select the spots you choose for your ticket - or use the easy pick option that will randomly select them for you.
- Select the number of draws you want to watch.
- Now put in the number of the first drawing you want to see.
- You should also fill in the cost-per-draw section.
- If you played add-ons like The Kicker, The Extra and The Jack, tick the appropriate boxes.
- Now you can either list the results or watch a replay of the actual drawings.
- Any winnings from those drawings should be automatically calculated and displayed on the screen.
Odds of Winning Club Keno in Michigan
The odds of winning depend on how many spots you select and how many of them are matched. The best way of finding out exactly what the prize odds are about the drawing you are playing is to consult the extensive list of odds that are to be found below the prize table on the Michigan Lottery website and app.
For instance, if you are playing a 10-spot game, the odds of matching 10 out of 10 are one in 8.91 million, while the chance of matching five out of 10 is one in 19.4. The overall odds of winning in a 10-spot game are 9.05.
Meanwhile, if you play the Jack, your chance of matching all eight numbers is one in 230,000, while the odds of matching four of them are one in 12. The overall odds of winning a prize are one in 9.77.
Extra Features When Playing
The first time you go into your local store that’s licensed to sell Club Keno tickets, you may mark up your playslip and get it printed out with a simple selection of a few spots. As you play games more regularly, you may decide to spice up each drawing by taking part in the features that offer you the chance to boost your payout and win extra prizes.
Let’s look in more detail at the features that you can enjoy along with every Club Keno drawing.
The Jack feature
If you play The Jack, you get an extra set of eight easy pick - randomly selected - numbers on your ticket between one and 80. You then play these numbers in the Club Keno drawing, separately from your other spots.
You can win Jack prizes if you match four Jack numbers or more, but the top prize is the progressive jackpot. This builds as more and more draws take place, and you can check the latest jackpot online.
If you want to enter The Jack, it will cost you $1. Please remember that the Jack numbers are not played in The Extra and that The Kicker does not apply to Jack prizes.
The Kicker feature
You’ll see The Kicker on screen before every Club Keno game. It’s a single number by which all winnings in that draw will be multiplied. The Kicker number can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10.
If you want to incorporate the Kicker number into your play, you will have to double the size of the wager on your ticket.
Always remember that The Kicker does not apply to The Extra, or to the Jack numbers.
Extra feature
After the first 20 numbers are selected in every Club Keno draw, another 10 numbers are chosen from the 60 that remain.
Playing The Extra will double your initial stake, but it means the numbers you chose are eligible for this separate game, which has its own Extra draw prize table.
The Extra draw prize for winning a 10-spot game on The Extra is capped at $500,000. Please bear in mind that The Kicker does not apply to prizes in The Extra and that numbers in The Jack are not played in the Extra draw.
