What’s a more frightening thought than a demon, a witch and a ghost all showing up at your door on Oct. 31 and asking for candy that you just ran out of? How about not having any costume ideas for Halloween?
Well, we’re here to help.
The most popular 2024 Halloween costume ideas in the state run the gamut from popular old favorites to newer movie and comic book characters.
Which 2024 Halloween costume trends are Michiganders embracing? BetMichigan.com, which has top Michigan sports betting promos, used Google Trends to find the top 10 most searched Halloween costumes for this season. The search period was filtered to a 30-day span in Michigan, ending Oct. 2, 2024.
Our pop culture coverage spans many topics, but our main focus at BetMichigan.com is stories about sports and the statewide interest in wagering on sporting events at Michigan betting sites.
With Halloween approaching, the frightful night of Oct. 31 in Michigan will include four NBA games, seven NHL games and an NFL game featuring the Houston Texas against the New York Jets. None of the major professional Detroit teams are scheduled to play on that Thursday night, but perhaps the Tigers will make the World Series after their amazing run just to reach the playoffs. If so, Oct. 31 would be a night off between Game 5 and Game 6.
Okay, let’s get this out of the way: Everybody loves clowns. Except for the considerable number of people who can’t stand clowns or are even frightened of them.
The fear of clowns is real, and it’s called coulrophobia. An article at the Scientific American website spells out some possible reasons for this very specific phobia.
Now, there are plenty of clowns who just want to spread joy, entertain kids with some slapstick antics, maybe spritz a stray adult with some water at a birthday party. Whatever the case, clowns are the most searched Halloween costume idea in the Great Lakes State for 2024, with a search interest score of 30 over the period that our research surveyed.
In second on our list of Halloween outfits drawing attention on statewide internet searches is the ever-popular Batman, with 29 points. There have been more than a dozen movies about the superhero, who made his debut on March 30, 1939, in the Detective Comics No. 27 comic book issue.
Third on our list is Wednesday Addams, the daughter of that creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky family from 1960s television lore (derived from an older comic strip). There have since been several Addams Family movies. The latest saga, a Netflix series called “Wednesday” with Jenna Ortega in the title role, has helped to revive interest in the famous goth girl.
Another superhero, Spider-Man, is fifth on our list, but there’s an easier fix for your Halloween costume concerns just ahead at No 4: The good old pirate. A hat, an eyepatch, maybe a bit of makeup and a cool white shirt (but not too puffy – just ask Jerry Seinfeld) are all you need and boom, you “arggggh” in style.
Our reviews of Michigan sportsbook apps never go out of style, so check them out when you sign up.
