The Detroit Red Wings host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight (7:30 p.m. Eastern), with the Wings off to a solid 2-1 start. The Penguins are also 2-1, so Michigan sports betting odds for tonight’s game are tight.
The big early storyline early in the season has been the impressive play of Alex DeBrincat, picked up in a trade this offseason with the Ottawa Senators. DeBrincat is a Michigan native and seems to be embracing his new digs with open arms – he had two goals and an assist in his home debut Saturday, a 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. He had five shots and finished the game a plus-4. DeBrincat has three goals and two assists overall so far.
BetMGM Michigan Sportsbook has the moneyline at Penguins -125, Wings +105 as of Wednesday afternoon. The puckline is Detroit -227 (+1.5), Pittsburgh +185 (-1.5). The Over/Under is 6.5 (O: -125, U: +105). BetRivers has the Moneyline at Red Wings +110, Penguins -134.
DeBrincat Making A Difference
As for DeBrincat, the left wing is anchoring the Wings’ top line, along with center Dylan Larkin and RW Lucas Raymond. DeBrincat scored 41 goals in two different seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks and had 27 goals in his only season with the Senators.
According to BetRivers Michigan Sportsbook, Larkin is among the top player props by percentage of total game money: Over 2.5 shots (-225). The Pens’ Erik Karlsson leads the way in most bet player props so far: Under 2.5 total shots (-112) is getting 18.2% of total game money. The Larkin over 2.5 total shots prop is getting 3.3%. Raymond to record at least one point (NO, at -815) is generating 3.1 percent.
DeBrincat simply never fit into Ottawa’s style of play. DeBrincat and Larkin are both scorers, and the two have found some good chemistry so far. Raymond is also a shooter.
Red Wings Injury Updates
On the injury front for the Wings, something customers at Michigan sportsbook apps will want to keep an eye on, center Robby Fabbri and right winger Matt Luff are out. For Pittsburgh, D Will Butcher is on injured reserve.
The Penguins haven’t played since Saturday’s 5-2 win over Calgary, so they’ll be rested. A big storyline with the Pens has been the play of Sidney Crosby, who is off to a fast start – three goals and one assist in three games.
The Penguins are 7-1-2 in their past 10 games against Detroit.
